About the University of Calgary

Established in 1966 after being a branch of the University of Alberta of almost 20 years, the University of Calgary has become known as a top research university and has gained notoriety over the years for the invention of the neurochip as well as producing top level graduates, including Prime Minister Stephan Harper. UCalgary is also recognized for being a leader in sustainability.

The QS World University Ranking recognized the University of Calgary as the number one university in Canada under the age of 50 in 2013. The school was also named as one of the top 20 young universities internationally.

University of Calgary embarked on a new strategic direction in 2011, with the goal of becoming one of Canada’s top five research universities. This has enriched the academic experience students can expect when they choose to study at UCalgary, creating a high quality learning environment through hands on research opportunities.

Campus Life at the University of Calgary

In addition to having the ability to experience everything that the city of Calgary has to offer, students are drawn to UCalgary for its young vibrant campus community. In total, there are four campuses: Main campus, West campus in Bow River Valley, Health Sciences Campus, and the Downtown Campus. The University of Calgary also open a campus in Doha, Qatar in 2007, with its primary focus being on Nursing Education.

These campuses offers students the opportunity to take part in events throughout the school year, access to great recreation facilities and join hundreds of university clubs. Students can experience the best of city life and nature at the same time.

The school is also known for the success of its athletics programs. The Dinos has won 44 National titles and has also produced 11 Olympic medals from graduates, making it an ideal place to study for student athletes.
