About the University of British Columbia

Commonly referred to as UBC across Canada, the University of British Columbia was established more than 100 years ago in 1908. Known as one of the leading research institutions in the country, it is consistently regarded as one of the top 40 research schools in the world and is regularly ranked in the top 3 in Canada. For this reason, UBC attracts thousands of international students from more than 150 countries around the world, making it one of the main destinations for international students in Canada.

UBC is known for producing many exceptional graduates. To date the school has produced 7 Nobel Prize Winners and 68 Rhodes Scholars and counting, as well as two former Prime Ministers – Kim Campbell and John Turner.

The school is also a pioneer in interdisciplinary studies. Today they have more integrated undergraduate programs than any other school in Canada, making it possible for students to learn across multiple disciplines in Applied Science, Arts, Forestry, Land & Food Systems, and Science.

Campus Life at UBC

There are two campuses that make up the University of British Columbia: Vancouver Campus and Okanagan Campus. Whether you live on campus in Vancouver or in Kelowna, you will experience some of the best outdoor areas that Canada has to offer. You can also experience big city life in Vancouver and are only a short distance from Whistler, Granville Island, beaches, Chinatown and Vancouver’s arts community.

On campus, there are more than 300 student clubs and associations across both campuses, world class research facilities, modern student residences, and recreation facilities.

Known for its tradition of sporting excellence, the school has produced more than 200 Olympians, winning 65 medals, and has won national championships in multiple sports, especially swimming.
