Portage College was established in 1968 and is located in Lac La Biche, Alberta. The College offers more than 30 certificate, diploma, and career training programs in fields such as Business, Environmental Studies, Food Sciences, and Health and Wellness, as well as Continuing and Distance Education programs. Portage College is the first choice for learners in northeast Alberta.
Portage College’s mission is to provide education, training, and services that facilitate and nurture learning and the development of intelligent, highly-skilled students. The College is involved in a number of community partnerships aimed at increasing the scope of students’ learning, including eCampus Alberta, which aims to build a collaborative online learning initiative for students in Alberta, as well as the Alberta Law Foundation through Portage College’s Public Legal Education Program. Portage College also collaborates with the Community Learning for Adult Students Society, which aims to foster lifelong learning based on the promotion and development of community-based education. Portage College is a member of the Alberta Rural Development Network.

Campus Life at Portage College
Portage College is home to eight campuses throughout northeastern Alberta, with campuses in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Frog Lake, Lac La Biche, Saddle Lake, and St. Paul. Each campus provides a unique opportunity to get involved in different academic programs through community-based learning initiatives.
The College provides an array of support services, including financial assistance, career counseling, personal counseling, and learning assistance.
Students at Portage College have a chance to become involved in student government through the Students’ Association, which provides a number of social and extracurricular services and activities for students to participate in throughout the year.
Lac La Biche is located approximately 200 kilometers northeast of Edmonton on the southern shore of Lac La Biche. The town is surrounded by numerous lakes and campgrounds and offers a variety of outdoor recreation activities, including visiting the nearby Lakeland Provincial Park. The Lac La Biche Mission is now a National Historic Site.
