About North Island College

North Island College (NIC) is a unique post-secondary experience. Since opening its doors in 1975, NIC has grown to include three centres and four campuses that stretch across northern Vancouver Island and the coast of mainland British Columbia. North Island College is proud of its reputation as a destination college.

Campus Life at North Island College

Thanks to its location along Canada’s beautiful west coast, North Island College offers unparalleled recreational activities and getting involved is easy.
Some activities available to students include:

  • Variety of drop-in sports

The North Island Students’ Union is a student-run organization that hosts a variety of recreational and assistance programs for students. In addition to Ride share and book exchange programs, the Students’ Union also hosts an array of workshops, fundraisers and social events.

All students are automatically a Union member upon registration and confirmation of first tuition payment received.

Why Study at North Island College

NIC offers 70 programs that include about 900 courses to choose from. Fields of study are many, ranging from diplomas and certificates in health care and trades to university level degrees in Business Administration, Arts and Science. All degree programs at NIC are facilitated in partnership with Vancouver Island University.

Boasting small class sizes and approachable faculty, North Island College prides itself on delivering students a personalized learning experience.

NIC is also equipped with cutting-edge communication too. Blackboard LEARN is an online tool designed to enhance communication between students and instructors. Blackboard LEARN allows instructors to easily share information, course materials and assignments which students can easily access any time via a web browser or mobile app.

North Island College has one of the lowest tuition rates amongst all Canadian colleges and NIC students have access to many financial assistance options including scholarships, bursaries and student loans. NIC is committed to helping ensure students have adequate funding to effectively complete their studies.
