Grant MacEwan University

Founded in 1971 as Grant MacEwan Community College, MacEwan University has since come a long way as an undergraduate institution. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, MacEwan University has four campuses; the City Centre Campus is the largest of the four. This campus extends six blocks through downtown Edmonton. The remaining campuses are the South Campus situated in Mill Woods, the Centre for Arts and Communication in West Jasper Place, and the Alberta College Campus, also located downtown.

MacEwan has a real commitment to the environment and has established a number of sustainable initiatives, causing some waves in the future of green solutions. Through the Office of Sustainability, the school educates the community in ‘green living’ and hosts a variety of activities aimed providing local solutions to environmental issues that affect our everyday lives.

Recognition

Over the years MacEwan has focused on the quality of its teaching and its instructors. This strategy has scored the school exceptionally well in the Globe and Mail Canadian University Report of 2011 – receiving top marks for quality education, quality of teaching, class size, student satisfaction and student-faculty interaction.

Why Study at MacEwan University

MacEwan is a diverse undergraduate institution offering programming through its four faculties and schools: the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Faculty of Health and Community Studies, the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications, and the School of Business. With eight bachelor’s degrees available, some including arts, science, nursing and music, the school offers 27 majors. Programs are offered with full-time, part-time and distance studies. There are also 50 diploma and certificate programs and credit projects at the institute.

Also available at MacEwan are a variety of preparation courses for university and college, degree-transfer programs, ESL programs, and noncredit / specialized programs such as professional development.  

Many international students choose to study at MacEwan because they offer a selection of services to help students successfully integrate into the Canadian culture and excel in their programs. ESL programs are available to prepare students with the needed language skills to qualify for further studies as MacEwan.

There are a wide variety of scholarships available specifically for Aboriginal, First Nations and Métis students at the school. The Canadian government sponsors a wide range of Aboriginal Bursaries and other incentives to encourage student’s success. At MacEwan there are also a number of other athletic awards, scholarships and bursaries available.

Student Life

Life at MacEwan is diverse and welcoming with lots of activities to keep students busy. Students can participate in cultural events, student clubs, or join a committee. The MacEwan University Griffins offer a wide variety of sports teams to keep students active and develop their leadership skills. There are even study abroad programs for those adventurous students looking to travel.  
Life off campus in Edmonton is just as exciting. The city is culturally rich and hosts a variety of outdoor events year round. There is shopping, entertainment, restaurants, theater, sports as well as beautiful parks and biking paths.
