About Brandon University

Originally founded as Brandon College, Brandon University is one of the oldest post-secondary institutions in Canada. Founded in 1899, it is the second largest school in Manitoba and is known for offering students a more intimate education experience and small class sizes – In fact it is recognized as offering the smallest class sizes among Canadian universities.

Commonly referred to as BU, one of the schools claims to fame is that the honourable Tommy Douglas graduated from Brandon and was later voted as The Greatest Canadian by CBC. The school of music is known as one of the best in the country and BU is one of few schools to offer an undergraduate program dedicated solely to liberal arts.

Located in the city of Brandon, students can expect an urban campus that offers everything you need for a comfortable student lifestyle. With students from more than 30 countries around the world regularly enrolled in campus programs, the office of International Activities provides a home away from home for international students.

Located along the Assiniboine River, there are no shortage of parks, trails and outdoor recreational activities for students to take part in during their free time.

If you like sports and recreation, the school offers a great recreation facilities, health and wellness, intramurals, and sports clubs. Plus, the schools Brandon Bobcat varsity teams are highly entertaining and competitive, giving students the chance to go to games and cheer on their favorite team.

Brandon offers a variety of undergraduate, post diploma, certificate and pre professionals programs. Notable degree programs include Bachelor of First Nations and Aboriginal Counselling, Bachelor in Environmental Science, Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing and graduate programs in Education, Music, Rural Development, Psychiatric Nursing, and Environment and Life Sciences.

Research is a big part of BU’s identity. The school has many modern research facilities and centre located on campus. They include Rural Development Institute, Tourism Research Centre, Centre for Aboriginal and Rural Education Studies, Micro Analytical Facility, Environmental Studies Laboratories, and the BU Research Office.

Brandon University also offers students the opportunity to apply for a number of scholarships and bursaries to assist with the cost of tuition and books. The school is part of the Project Hero scholarship program and offers scholarships for First Nations, Aboriginal, and Metis students.
